Learn how to fit an Asetek Bottom Mount to your table or rig, when to choose a tilted wheelbase mount instead, and the checkpoints that prevent mounting mistakes.

Quick answer

Fit the Asetek Bottom Mount by attaching it to the underside of your Asetek SimSports direct drive wheelbase, then bolt the assembly to a flat surface that supports the full length of the mount. Choose this mount when you want a low, table-friendly or rig-mounted base; choose the Asetek Wheelbase Mount With Tilt if you need to angle the wheelbase up to 12.7 degrees. Never mount it to a surface that only contacts part of the mount.

What the bottom mount actually does

The Asetek Bottom Mount is a bracket that fixes to the underside of your Asetek SimSports wheelbase and then to your table or rig. Because the t-slots in the bottom of the wheelbase let you slide the wheelbase back and forth, you can fine-tune fore-aft position before final tightening. This is the simplest way to get a direct drive base onto a desk or a flat rig deck without a dedicated front-mount plate.

Check the surface before you drill or bolt

The mount must sit on a flat surface that supports its entire length. A partial contact point, a curved desk edge, or a rig deck with a gap under the mount will let the bracket flex and can work the fasteners loose. If your rig uses a wheelbase plate, confirm the plate is flat and wide enough for the mount footprint before you commit. If the surface is not flat, a different mounting approach is the safer choice.

When a tilt mount is the better call

If you want the wheelbase angled rather than flat, the Asetek Wheelbase Mount With Tilt gives you up to 12.7 degrees of adjustment using four screws, two on each side of the tilt bracket. That range matters for ergonomics: a tilted base can bring the wheel closer to a natural hand position without changing your whole rig. The bottom mount does not offer that angle adjustment, so pick based on whether you need tilt, not on price alone.

Flight stick and HOTAS mounting is a separate job

If you also fly, the ART Flight Stick Mount is pre-drilled for popular Thrustmaster, Logitech and Saitek equipment and can hold a joystick or throttle on either side, or between your legs on an ART Cockpit. Treat that as its own mounting decision. Do not assume a wheelbase bracket will accept flight controls, and do not drill a wheelbase mount to make one fit.

Step-by-step: fitting the Asetek Bottom Mount

  1. Confirm the mount suits your wheelbase and surface: Check that you have an Asetek SimSports direct drive wheelbase and a flat surface that can support the entire length of the bottom mount. If you need to angle the wheelbase, stop here and use the Asetek Wheelbase Mount With Tilt instead. Checkpoint: if any part of the mount overhangs or sits on a curve, do not proceed.
  2. Attach the mount to the underside of the wheelbase: Fix the bottom mount to the bottom of the wheelbase first, while the wheelbase is off the rig and easy to handle. Use the t-slots in the bottom of the wheelbase to slide the base to your preferred fore-aft position, then snug the fasteners. Common mistake: tightening everything before you have set the slide position, which forces you to loosen and redo it.
  3. Position the assembly on the table or rig: Set the wheelbase and mount onto the table or rig deck and check that the mount lies flat along its whole length. Mark or note the final position before you bolt through, because moving a bolted assembly later is harder than adjusting it now. Checkpoint: press down on each end of the mount; any rocking means the surface is not flat enough.
  4. Bolt down and tighten evenly: Fasten the mount to the surface and tighten the fasteners in a cross pattern rather than one side fully first. Even tightening keeps the bracket seated flat and reduces the chance of a stressed or stripped fixing point. Common mistake: over-tightening one corner, which lifts the opposite corner off the surface.
  5. Re-check slide position and clearances: With the mount secured, confirm the wheelbase still sits where you want it and that the wheel and cables clear the table edge or rig frame. Make any final fore-aft adjustment through the t-slots before your last tightening pass. Next step: if the wheel angle feels wrong, switch to the tilt mount rather than shimming the bottom mount.

Product facts

  • Asetek Bottom Mount: The Bottom Mount can be mounted directly onto your table or on your rig, and it attaches to the underside of the Asetek SimSports Direct Drive wheelbase. This is the low-profile option for desk and flat rig-deck setups, but it requires a flat surface that supports the entire length of the mount.
  • Asetek Wheelbase Mount With Tilt: The Asetek Wheelbase Mount With Tilt lets you slide the wheelbase back and forth on the t-slots and angle it up to 12.7 degrees with four screws, two on each side of the tilt bracket. Choose this instead of the bottom mount when wheel angle matters more than a flat, low mounting position.
  • ART Flight Stick Mount: The ART Flight Stick Mount is pre-drilled for the most popular equipment from Thrustmaster, Logitech and Saitek and can mount a joystick and throttle on either side or between your legs on the ART Cockpit. If your rig serves both driving and flight sims, plan this as a separate mount rather than adapting a wheelbase bracket.
